EP257: Shane Wicks - Patience Is A Superpower

“We all have to showboat. We all have to be that actor on stage 24/7. There’s no place for us to take off the masks and just be ourselves.” — Shane Wicks

Most men are performing. At work, at home, online — running a version of themselves they think the world needs to see. Shane Wicks built Hyperactive Men because he got tired of watching men drown in plain sight, pretending they were fine while everything underneath was falling apart. He knows that drowning. His son died on a Sunday. He went to work on Monday. That’s what men do — and that’s exactly the problem.

Nicky and Shane get into the raw reality of why men have lost the ability to be patient, still, and honest with themselves. Shane traces it directly: when you strip away the hunter’s discipline — the stillness, the strategy, the capacity to wait — and replace it with social media, addiction, and constant reactivity, you get men who are emotionally volatile and calling it strength. The antidote isn’t softer men. It’s men who’ve done the internal work and come out the other side with genuine confidence rather than performance.

Shane’s framework through Hyperactive Men is built on four pillars — strength and discipline, emotional intelligence and relationships, financial intelligence and strategic thinking, and command and presence. Simple, practical, designed for men who don’t need a guru, they need a challenge and a room where they can finally take the mask off.

Nicky adds the scale problem that every man in this space needs to hear: there are roughly 3.9 billion lost men on this planet right now. The answer isn’t competition between men’s groups. It’s brotherhood between the men leading them.

Shane Wicks is the founder of Hyperactive Men, a men’s development organization based in Ottawa, Ontario, built around confidence, discipline, and authentic connection. Drawing on the frameworks of Carl Jung and Dan Keeley, Shane runs weekly in-person and online programming for men who are done pretending and ready to show up as themselves.
